The WA Local Government Association is the voice of Local Government in Western Australia. As the peak industry body WALGA advocates on behalf of the State's 141 Local Governments and negotiates service agreements for the sector. WALGA is not a government department or agency.

On Friday 8 May 2009, WALGA in partnership with the Department of Local Government and Regional Development, Institute of Public Works Engineers (IPWEA) and Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) held a WA Local Government Asset Management Forum.
The delegates heard from a number of speakers on the state and national context of asset management activities, as well as valuable Local Government case studies.
A DVD is currently being put together of the event and will be available in June, free to Local Governments on request.

Local Government in Western Australia has a long-term plan for the sustainability of the sector.
Endorsed at a State-wide Forum of about 300 Local Government representatives, the plan is now available to download.
Titled The Journey: Sustainability into the Future, the plan is the final report of WALGA's Systemic Sustainability Study process that involved more than four years of research, analysis and consultation.
